I just watched Finding Forrester last night. What a great flick!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181536/

So, I figured I'd take Forrester's advice and start writing. I'll just write from the "heart" and see how far that takes me. Mostly I think this will amount to no more than mental masturbation, but what the heck. I need more creative outlets in my life. So, let's give this a shot.

I really loved the premise of the film, how the main character, Jamal, is an amazing author, and a virtuouso basketball player. Here he is, a genius, trapped amongt mundane people. He really does love basketball, but really, it's the only way he can fit in. No one around him truly understands his gifts.

Enter Forrester (played by Sean Connery). An old cranky man, living in obsurity, yet a world-renowned author. He takes Jamal under his wing and mentors him. Slowly, as their relationship develops, he becomes more like a father figure to him.

Jamal is discovered to be brilliant, not by his school work (a C student, doing just enough to get by but avoid being noticed), but by some amazing test scores. He is offered a scholarship to go to a prestigous private school.

Anyway, I don't want to tell you the whole movie. Suffice to say, it's one of those stories where genius is discovered, but a good human story emerges. Great flick.
